Men concerned about balding

I like hair on a man's head but the men in my ex-hubby's family all suffered male pattern baldness. Loved him not his hair, still do but not as a wife. Anyway my question is also, is balding why so many men decide to bite the bullet and start shaving your heads before it all falls out? I'm just astounded by the number of men with close cropped hair these days....you can't all be going bald surely?!?! Has it become a fashion among you? Genuinely curious....😳

I have been tonsorially neglected since about 25 and never had any problem. My father and grandfather had similar patterns of the Caesar corona around the head so it did not seem unusual to me. It just seemed to be a natural part of growing up in my family. Only one woman ever said she would not date me because I was bald. I figured anyone who uses hair as a defining criteria was a lot on the shallow side and not worth pursuing. As to On_Safari's question, I started getting a close Roman cut primarily because it looks neater. It looks incongruous to have long hair around the bottom with a bald top. But I have never been a fan of the completely shaved head either although I have seen a few guys rock it.

Burning another good post. I started thinning out at 25yo. At that time - 1995 - I had the shortest "Flat Top" possible, I loved it and it suited my then occupation....However no matter where one begins to bald the choice of hair styles is gone generally, sadly even for a flat top....Ah the aging process dawns! Dearie me the clippers do offer very cheap maintenance costs & getting ready to go anywhere at all, is easy peasy...So I think most guys are more annoyed at losing their choice of hair styles rather than being a comfort issue.

That's about when the tide started to go out on my head. I have a number 2 all over as my hair is naturally curly. I know it is time to get out the clippers when I get up in the morning and hair sticks out. With it very thin on top and longer than number 2 on the sides I start to resemble Krusty the Clown... Its a much better look with it uniformly short all over.... Im not really worried about going bald....

My concerns are about sunburn and what little I can do with my hair...close cropped or close shave are really my only options now, despite the fact that it still grows quite thickly at the back...bald with a pony tail...I don't think so.If I was insecure about it might be a bit sad...

My man is balding, he has been for years. He chose (and still does) to keep it cropped on a number 1, he refuses to look like friar Tuck. Even if he wasn't balding he said he would keep it cropped because it's easier to maintain :) when he had it done the first time he was wearing a flannie shirt, work pants and he looked awful. I yelled at him and said ' I didn't marry a fucking began ' and didn't speak to him for two weeks. Everyone else loved it and now I can't imagine him with hair! I have to say I love a completely shaved head or cropped hair on men :) Mary xx

Making yourself bald definitely seem to be a modern 'fad' as I've seen plenty of guys who aren't naturally bald just keep on shaving their hair. It's certainly not for me - when I was still at home it was always the 'short back n sides' treatment, which I absolutely hated. Even my former wife followed in that footstep and would keep at me to have that look. Since my 'independence' I have kept it in a longer state, sometimes growing down to collar length. (Not a fan of long pony-tail type hair on men). I usually have two lengths during the year - a longer look during winter to keep warmer, and a slightly shorter cut for comfort during summer. If I was going to go bald (naturally), it probably would have started long before now, so hopefully I won't be falling into that basket, and I have no intention of shaving my head. I don't like the look, personally, plus I believe that it is still an effective form of sun protection for the top of your head, which is more important to me than a 'fashionable' look. Both my dad, and his dad, suffered from male pattern baldness from early on. My dad was king of the 'comb-over', but as he got older he just couldn't keep it going, and was just down to the 'ring of confidence', until his late 70's there was very little left. Tall

I went from having shoulder length strawberry blonde hair as an 18yo to using the number one clippers as a 20yo. Was shaving it all by 23. Not sure what it would look like now, but would be mostly grey if my occasional beard is any indication.

I hate that I've lost my hair (lost it at 27), but at the same time I don't worry over it. It's happened, it's not coming back, and my hair doesn't make me who I am. I just knock it off with the clippers once or twice a week. I actually see other people make more of a fuss about it than me, which then makes me wonder if hair to men is like that whole slimming for women in society's eyes. Unfortunately I've come across many girls that don't like a balding man, but that's their choice. Why do I miss my hair? I was always that kid on a sporting field rocking the mohawk or having colour in it because I used to love the crazy stuff Dennis Rodman would do with it. I'd still be doing a lot of that because it was a part of me. I also miss looking like Dave Grohl when I let it grow haha. - Posted from rhpmobile

I don't shave my head but I do like an undercut, I just happen to be bald on top so it looks like I shave it all off. Is that a crime :) I think i'd pretty much tried every hair cut possible to make the most of what I had up until I was around 30 before I just shaved it all off. Now I live in Darwin and as long as I sunscreen my noggin it makes sense to have no hair because it's so bloody hot, i'm not conscious of the fact i'm balding until my partner points out i'm starting to look like Krusty the clown. Then I get the head vibration massage of a life time, there really should be a bigger selection of hair clippers like vibrators....

I did a whole heap of crazy hair things in my teens because i knew I was going to go bald, genetics say it is a recessive gene on your mothers side and grandad was thin up top, plus my dad was too, so I was fucked from the gitgo. The problem was that I started thinning in my early 20s, lol. I figured I'd get everyone accustomed to the style and started shaving it, never looked back. Fortunately I have a decent shaped head. I get the razor out once a week, sometimes once a fortnight (although the difference in shave time is about 20 extra minutes for the latter). I make up for it with my beard though, majestic thing that it is...

All in the genes, most who accept what's happening just move on, even those who are doing chemo. Otherwise it's just a facade and they really don't know, or accept their station in life.

I'm 6'2" and had ginger/red hair to my bum and beard to my navel for 25 years. Then the crown started to disapear fairly quickly so now its a 2 all over, then a 1 on the crown and a 3 for the beard. So much easier to look after and keep tidy than the locks used to be, and a whole lot safer. Never had any of it caught in machinery, but I did have a collosal hole in the beard for a while, pulled up at work with the window down, stood over the door aand wound it up, didn't notice that 4 inches of beard was caught between the window and channel till I went to move out of the doorway, sure noticed when the door was halfway shut though. That side still grows slower and thinner than the other 18 years on.

I started shaving my head long before baldness reared its ugly head . I've got quite thick , curly hair and the amount of product/time I had to invest to tame the unruly mop , only to step out in the rain and have it ruined , just wasn't worth the effort . I bought a pair of clippers for $10 and it changed my whole perspective . I realised how much time I wasted on my hair . I realised that I was always thinking about my hair when I was out . Wanting to ensure that it wasn't messed up . Pffft ! My $10 clippers lasted for about 4 years . Mathematically , this was starting to make sense . The fact that I didn't have to pay someone else an exorbitant amount of money to cut my hair was becoming quite apparent . Fast forward 18 years and I always shave my head . It makes sense anyway . I live in a sub-tropical climate . I haven't seen myself with hair for a long time and , yes , baldness has crept in . But I've gotta say ; I've met plenty of women who think a shaved head is Hot !! The most popular Hollywood Action stars are bald . Bruce Willis , Vin Diesel , Jason Statham . Geez , even Sean Connery was bald when he started being James Bond back in the 60's (he wore a piece). Obviously Baldness is a badge of Male Potency ! Steven Seagal looks pretty bloody stupid with that ponytail ! It's just begging for someone to grab onto it and swing around ;) & we all know that guys that age don't have black hair ... GG♒️ - Posted from rhpmobile

My son at 17 started to recede.. he went around wearing beanies and hats.. a year and half later, the best thing that ever happened for his confidence with it, was he went completely bald for cancer with about 15 other guys of all ages.. he looked fabulous, got brilliant comments and found his sexy bald... he is now very confident in his own head of hair, what is left that is lol

..but I wasn't bothered as I had been clipping it short for some years already..afro-type hair like mine is much easier to live with when it's kept low. Ever tried getting a helmet or even a hat over an afro? : )These days as it keeps thinning I just keep it shorter..usually a no. 1 cut..and it's nice to be able to shave it to the same length as my facial hair. Hair loss is a natural part of ageing, especially for men, and I have no hang-ups about it so I don't want to fight it with expensive treatments like some I know. There are a lot of practical pluses to a neat, short trimmed head, anyway. The cold is the only real practical negative..and maybe sunburn ; )Though, like most everyone I suspect, I do get bored of my outward image/appearance from time to time and the ability to change my hair colour and style has been taken away from me…in my 20's I toyed with hair colours from red to orange to silver to white, etc( perhaps that's why it started thinning out. It took a lot of peroxide and pain! ; ) …and that's why I get tattoo art occasionally or grow facial hair. Can't do anything with my hair. On a related subject, about 4 years ago, bored with my appearance again..I went to see a cosmetic surgeon about having my ears put back. They do stick out a little ; ) He explained the process and showed me photos( interestingly, it was mainly young children who had the procedure done for obvious reasons ), so I went home and thought about it before returning and putting down my non-refundable $500 deposit on the $7000 procedure. The operation was booked for several months away, in the winter, and I went about life as usual until then. A bit surprisingly to me, when I told friends and workmates what I was doing, the almost universal reply was "Oh, but you look fine the way you are. They're( my ears ) not bad"…as if I needed a bandaid. I've never had any sort of issues being a kid then a man with big ears, but it seemed that those around me assumed I did, particularly as I was having such an operation. Should I assume one has psychological issues when they cut or colour their hair? Or nails? Anyway, after some thought I cancelled the operation, despite my deposit, and bought another motorbike off Gumtree with the $7000. I built it up into an off road explorer over a few months then took off for a trip from Perth to Cairns, via the top end. It was quite the adventure and I haven't looked back since.

I am not troubled about going bald, I do not lose sleep over it, I dont hide it with hats and never even remotely considered the more drastic steps, like topee or surgery. But all the same if given the opportunity to select what traits I could have, thinning hair would not be on my list. I have been to a few costume parties where I have worn a wig, and not something subtle. I have noticed the difference, and it is defiantly not subtle at all. Women that previously did not even notice me were now more than happy to give me the time of day. I am not about to say that they are shallow, that type of attraction is not something that people spend time thinking about, its instinctual, and its totally cool to be attracted to attractive traits and a full head of hair (even a absurdly over the top cheap costume wig) spells out youth and vigor, its a very primal attraction. I could say something like, "Thickness (hair) does not matter, its how you use it." but those types of affirmations are not my style. I would like to say I am comfortable in my skin, but that is not true either. I think that the vast majority of people have something that they are insecure about, its part of human nature and there is nothing wrong with having insecurities. Its when you let those insecurities get in the way of having a good time that they become problematic. Am I OK with hair loss? yes, I seldom even think about it. Would I change it if given the option? Yes if there was a one off magic pill. Does it diminish my opportunities and life satisfaction? Not at all. And as this is RHP. Would I trade a big cock for a full head of hair knowing I would most likely get more sex? I'll leave that question unanswered ;) LOL Focus on what you do have not what you don't.

I keep my hair quite short with clipped because of my baldness. While I do not think baldness looks bad, I usually associate it with older guys so feel weird about it since I'm only 31 and started losing it probably more than 7 years ago. I generally get the feeling that most women wouldn't be interested in someone my age with so little hair so I can be hard on myself because of it, even though there is nothing I can do to make it all grow back...

i have had all sort of hair styles from the long ponytail to long straightened or waxed back to bald and everything in between as I always like to play and change styles. but one style that I have loved so much that i just can not let go off is the shaved head or the number 1 clipped.. its just so simple eazy sexy and awesome to rock "unless its a cold night" I find it very attractive on my head and not only get lots of comments but also just love the feel of it "its just awesome specially if u ride bikes and ware helmets to race cars on track etc.. " every now and then I get a comment saying something like oh your balding and I just look at them a little confused thinking you must 1) be blind as i do have hair and option to grow it 2) if i was how would you think that would make me feel for you noting it out !! i mean you must think you look perfect right !! lol actually rarely id think that usually id laugh and tell em keep up with the sexy style. its hot hot hot for sure and havent had any issues picking up with it at all. p.s if you have dark hair features and a light trimmed beard or styles facial it could do wonders ;-)

I fear it but am comfortable knowing it won't happen to me anytime soon(genetics). My long hair is my look and I guess a bit of a trade mark, it's just me. I'm not willing to lose that, in my mind baldness also represents old age. I had a scare 2 years ago after I became seriously ill(due to poor eating choices on a month long holiday killing my immune system) and the stress on my body from rapid weight loss(82-63kg within a few days) and constant high fevers I unluckily developed a condition called "Telogen Effluvium" that from about 2 months from initial illness randomly cause my hair to all of a sudden fall out in massive clumps, and going from thick shoulder length to very thin with patches everywhere with a week or 2. A tell tale sign was my hair starting to look frazzled(as people loved to point out at the time) during the recovery period and then the eventual shedding. I still remember the fright(followed by anger, frequent pacing & daily scalp checks from the paranoia of not knowing what was wrong with me & the fear of permanent baldness. Then after the doctors multiple misdiognosises(and payback from bald friends that i'd be making fun of for years) google helped me get to the bottom of it and within a month the shedding stopped and I noticed the new sprouts starting to grow everywhere. Fast forward 2 years my hair is back, thick, long and very neatly maintained but baldness is still a huge fear for me. Apologies for the essay.

Having a stiletto and a shoe on each side of the fence (seem to be talking a lot about shoes this week-mmmm) I was concerned in my younger days about the thinning out of my hair and was only ever attracted to men with hair. Now follicular challenged I am finding bald/shaved men very sexy indeed as proven with a couple of my recent playmates. Yum yum. And I dont care, started getting grey hairs at 30yo and started losing hair in late 40s, not worrying about it if it looks untidy will cut back to look neat and tidy, wont shave it unless I go bald naturally. Comb over no way, when I go to my hair dressers I get asked the question how does it feel, not how do I look. I rarely look at myself and come to the conclusion late in life nobody stares or looks at me because of my head so I cant be too ridiculous, I feel comfortable in my own way I guess. As for the sex thing like head between thighs I guess if it happens I will just say be gentle. LOL is about as vain as I will get.

I mean hair, no hair.......you cant polish a turd 2. Yul Brinner?? Sexy sexy3. I don't think Vin will be much worried one way or the other. Yup, my hair seems to be migrating from my head to various other parts of my body - perhaps the cold Melbourne weather has finally got to it, and it seeks to retire to warmer climes. I am at peace with it - that, and the ever-growing collection of.....character lines - and have no plans to try to influence Mother Nature, other than to grow old disgracefully with her.

Been bald for half my life now. . . tried to fight the clippers when it first started to get bad but after 3 months and badgering by the co-workers it was time to give in and go the chop... never looked back. Paid $40 for a pair of hair clippers at Paddy's markets when I was 20 and have never paid for a haircut since. Does being bald phase me? Nope! Some love it, some hate it, but that's their problem not mine :) SG

Been shaving my head for a few years now, through choice. Prefer the look, and it is heaps easier for day to day living. Have found a number of women love it, and I must admit I like it when random women ask if they can rub my head, can be a good ice breaker lol.

It is much more of a start reminder that you aren't your younger self! The women who like balding men are most likely in the minority's rather than the majority (happy to stand corrected). And you always miss what you can't have anymore :) - Posted from rhpmobile

Baldness is neat, god only made so many perfect heads, on the rest he put hair. As for cheap haircuts, last time I went to the barber it cost me $25, 5 for the hair cut and 20 to find it.

Just recently started close cropping my hair and for someone that had a lot of thick blonde hair this was a big change. Love it now. Wife says she does too but that could be domestic blindness. Hehehe Don't know what woman in general think but I can tell you if you tell a woman you have cropped hair it is a total turn off. Which I find interesting. I like a woman with long hair so I can ........ So I guess the same rules apply. Interesting question. Thank you. - Posted from rhpmobile

And have never looked back. Baldness just means we are higher evolved. Look at all the higher evolved aliens in movies they have no hair so it must be true lol. 😎😇😘 - Posted from rhpmobile
