I have a quote that has been around for a long time and wanted to share with those on here who are swingers, or those who are interested in swinging: "What exactly is swinging? Unlike "open marriages" of the 1970's which promoted non-possessive love and tolerance of infidelity in their spouses (O'Neill and O'Neill, 1972), or "polyamory" (Wesp, 1992) - the love of many people at once – swinging is non-monogamous sexual activity, treated much like any other social activity, that can be experienced as a couple. Emotional monogamy, or commitment to the love relationship with one's marital partner, remains the primary focus. Swinging is usually done in the presence of one's spouse and requires the consent of both to the experience. Although swingers often become close friends with other swinging couples, there are unspoken rules restricting emotional involvement with non-spousal partners. While swinging involves having sex with people other than one's spouse, its adherents claim that it enhances the relationship of the swinging couple both sexually and emotionally. By removing the secrecy and dishonesty inherent in one's natural desires for sexual variety, the couple can explore their fantasies together without deceit or guilt. By removing the necessity for deceit from the relationship, a new level of trust and openness about all of one's feelings is supposedly achieved without the destructive baggage of jealousy. (McGinley, 1995)" This is a 15 year old quote, has the definition changed? Do you agree with Mr McGinley? I have met the man, and he does seem very knowledgable on the topic. Hard

Pretty well right, I have read a lot of McGinleys stuff and would like to read where you have quoted from in its full context. The only problem I see is swinging is a couples sport, where the above reference is suggesting "Usally done in the presence of ones partner" If the couple swaps with another couple same house same night, just seperate rooms thats fine = swinging. But if one of the couple stays at home and the other goes out for sex, thats not swinging thats a open relationship. Another misconception is if a sex party is held and the invites are to singles as well as couples thats not a swingers party its a sex party. Because swingers are couples having sex with others together.

A gaggle of couples throwing their own car keys into a bowl. then selecting another from the collected bowl full, then discover who their playmates are, or stealing the car which the keys fit into. And possibly some clown masturbating into the Fondue set. And snail trails from who knows who all over the velor brown couch setee while gary glitter plays on vinyl. . Some things never change. And why should they as that sounds pretty streamlined and fail proof even in 2011. . I totally agree.And i would add that single people are NOT swingers...we are merely additions to the swinging couples' experienceshould they choose to add us.JMO...BJxxx

A swinger for me is when I tie a guy up and hoist him into the air with my chain block. They attain such a smooth swinging action when I do that.

Tony, What are doing quoting from the 1950s, with your funny additions. How old are you really to be quoting key parties? Is this what you meant to say? Swinging was first reported by the US media as "wife swapping" in the 1950's practiced in Southern California and within the military. The latter at "key clubs" where husbands reportedly tossed their house keys into a pile in the center of the room where they were drawn at random by the wives.' So Happens the ex 'mother in law' and 'father in law' were invited to such a party in about1973, they attended having no idea at all what a swingers party was. They found out pretty quickly and made a hasty exit, thoroughly shocked and embarrassed and offended. Was a funny true family story they cringed at, whenever brought up. They were such Dweebs anyway. I thought it was hilarious.

Yep I sure can, and it seems to work for you. I tried it with an ex partner but there was too much jelousy on her part, so we had to abandon the polyamory as well as the relationship. I later found out that she was bi-polar and was trying to stop using the medication, perhaps if she stayed on it, our polyamory would have worked. I thought it was a great idea actually. Even though I am single, I do consider myself a swinger as I have had a partner who used to swing with me. I guess I am a partnerless swinger now, I keep going to CI hoping I can find another partner who is in the lifestyle so we can swing as a couple... so there you go!
