In the Middle East dates back to 1095 when Pope Urban asked Western Christians to go to war against Muslims who controlled the Holy Land ie Jerusalem.Until that time Christians had been able to make pilgrimages there. There were nine Crusades from 1095 until 1272. Q

Was invented by the SS in Nazi Germany in 1941. The US had blocked most of the Coca Cola flavours to Germany by that time and they resorted to making an orange version. I know they were pricks and should be shot on sight, but geez you can't argue with Fanta can you? - Posted from rhpmobile

Checked. I was wrong. But at least the SS angle was more entertaining, right? :) - Posted from rhpmobile

You know those glorious photographs you see of the Aurora Borealis..the northern lights? The vivid green and purple swirls across a clear starlit sky? They dont look like that to the naked eye. They usually look like a white fog in the sky, that fades in and out of being...too slowly to really notice. The camera captures more light than the eye does.

Quoting 'Twisted_Mister' Checked. I was wrong. Second Part : The mention of Hitler then ends the conversation and the utterer is deemed to have lost the debate. Ipso facto anyone?

Quoting 'Aristippusx2' First Part :The longer a conversation continues , the probability of mentioning Hitler becomes greater. Second Part : The mention of Hitler then ends the conversation and the utterer is deemed to have lost the debate. Ipso facto anyone? No, as that fact is not a fact, so it wouldn't really follow from itself :p Interesting fact: The above is not Godwin's Law, nor a situation it applies to. The law doesn't relate to just a mention of Hitler/Nazis, it is that the probability of a _comparison_ approaches 1. Godwin didn't come up with it to rail against ANY mention of Hitler, it was to address OTT comparisons. The Fanta 'fact' from Twisted_Mister might've been incorrect, but it was not a frivolous comparison. There also isn't a second part, the "debate losing" part was just a tradition on some groups, and it has been lumped in with the law. Even Mike Godwin has said that this is nonsense, and that his 'law' states nothing about whether the comparison is valid or reasonable.

Well thought out. Although with the second part all laws are amended/corrupted over time. Time for anti cerebral facts 1. Female Kangaroos have three vaginas 2. Male kangaroos have only a two pronged penis (who's missing out?)

I mean I wouldn't let a cat scratch my pole... Catscratch Fever (virus de la maladie des griffes de chat) This disease (nonbacterial regional lymphadenitis, benign inoculation lymphoreticulosis) is now an established clinical entity of world-wide distribution. The etiological association withh acts is also established, but since the animals involved are usually healthy they are possibly only intermediate hosts of the virus. Infection occurs predominantly in younger persons and may be subclinical. In overt cases the bite or scratch is followed by an incubation period of 3-14 days before appearance of theprimary lesion (papule) and 7-21 days before lymphodenopathy develops. This is the principal feature and is characterised histologically by tuberculoid, necrotic granulomatosis. It is usually regional but occasionally generalized. Nodes are enlarged up to several centimeters in diameter and suppuration is common. There is usually spontaneous regression in 2 weeks to 2months but in obstinate cases surgical removal may be desirable. General symptoms are fever, headache and malaise. The disease is often associated with neurological manifestations 1-5 weeks after onset. Depending on the localization of the inolculation with virus, it may assume a pseudo-venereal, buccopharyngeal (anginal), ocular, mesenteric, thoracic ormeningo-encephalitic form. The protean nature of the disease causes difficulties in diagnosis, and the only reliable diagnostic aid is the skin test with antigen prepared from lymph nodes of patients. It has been suggested this organism belongs to the P-LV group. ( Also listed in the P-LV group: Chlamydia trachomatis Chlamydia oculogenitalis Miyagawanella lymphogranulomatosis Miyagawanella psittaci Miyagawanella ornithosis Miyagawanella pneumoniae Miyagawanella louisianae Miyagawanella illinii ) c/- Documenta Geigy Scientific Tables Sixth Edition, 1962.

I do not have Chlamydia! (Not that anyone has either asked, or accused; I merely happened across the above info whilst flicking through an old reference text). This book (Documenta Geigy Scientific Tables Sixth Edition, 1962) contains all sorts of interesting information. Obviously (given the age of this reference book), some information is now superceded; much of it is not. Amongst many other things, this book contains tables for 'Average Weights of Adults' (by Gender, by Height, by Age Groupings), and 'Desirable Weights of Adults' (by Gender, by Height, by Frame Size (Small frame, Medium Frame, Large frame)). These tables are derived from a Society of Actuaries study from 1959, and from a Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Statistical Bulletin (also from 1959) in the US. According to these tables, I am under 'average weight' for my height and age, and at the upper range for a medium frame/lower range for a large frame of 'desirable weight. Considering the "...skinny, average and overweight..." thread, I'm now curious to look up the equivalent contemporary tables.
