An ADVENTURE

June 05 2013

I had a dream last night that I asked an older woman if she had any regrets and she said she regretted not having and Adventure.......this has played on my mind as I always have done for others and feel like I need an Eat Pray Love type of experience in my life. Does anyone have any suggestions or stories to tell of adventures that have made a difference in their lives? The furthest I have travelled is Queensland and it has been on my mind for a while I need to go overseas and experience something for me. I had always thought I would do it with another and not alone so as to have someone to share the experiences with. Although waiting might not be ideal as it may never happen but I have had to do so much solo even in my marriage.

You have to go overseas!! It will open up a whole new world for you. Go on some groups tours at first. I enjoyed Intrepid Travel and there are lots of single women on them. I have traveled with friends, and on my own and been on two group holidays. Love them all. I been everywhere man! Well not everywhere but I am getting there. :)

Seriously every day life gets a bit boring doesn't it? I have to have at least some adventure every year otherwise life just becomes same old same old.

Until recently I didn't own a passport so had limited my travel to seeing different parts of Australia. However I am now the proud owner of a passport and with the company of a friend I met on RHP I am looking forward to travelling to SE Asia later this year!! I don't regret putting it off until now but am super excited at the thought of travelling with my new friend and getting up to all sorts of mischief along the way

I totally understand what you are saying BBE, i feel as though it's time i crossed off a few more countries from my bucket list.   I'm currently planning a 6 week jaunt for early next year, which will be the first time i've travelled solo. I'm equal parts excited and nervous.   Personally i'm inclined to steer away from the organised tours as that's not really my thing. I'm hoping i won't be lonely because i took that option!

If you are looking for something unusual there are lots of volunteer Programmes as well. You can work with animals.... Tiger sanctuary in Thailand for example or help build houses in third work countries. KarynB, depends what tour. I like intrepid as they do unusual and exiting things plus you get heaps of spare time. Just depends on what country you go to. I did their tour in Eygpt... Before my girlfriend and I travelled around on out own and also went to Vietnam with them but I did a side trip to Angkor Wat on my own.

There is no better experience than travelling to broaden your horizons. It is my 2nd favourite passion in life. I've been to so many places, met so many different people and enjoyed lots of different cultures and traditions. It is an eye opener and will open up a whole new way of thinking for you.   I took my daughter to Thailand for her 21st birthday. The change is her attitude was a complete 360 as far as appreciating her life back in Aus. Now she has the travel bug too.   Go for it. I have travelled alone, with a friend, with a partner and on group tours. They are all fun so long as you are open to saying hello and letting new people into your life albeit it briefly.   Go for it!   SFxx

it's different for women but travelling alone exposes you to so much more than with a companion. When you are with company people tend to leave you alone more as you already have company.Alone however people are more inclined to say hello, offer help or just simply be curious, exposing you to far more adventure and culture than you might otherwise see.Just my 2c

desperate to travel overseas. And I do regret not having done any up to now, due to poor decisions on my part. But anyway, I'm hoping once I finish my degree I can work overseas for awhile. Europe is my absolute top of the list must visit, along with Africa and Costa Rica (for the Sloth Sanctuary).I say go for it...don't wait for the 'right' person to come along that you can go with, because they may never show up. If you don't want to go on your own there are lots of group options, and you can meet new people in the process.

spent 3 weeks eating and drinking our way through Italy a few years ago. La dolce vita! (I left my boring husband at the time at home after he slept through our week in New York a few years earlier)

Going to see something you are passionate about first, whether it's art, history or even an animal safari. Beware though, once you start traveling, it's becomes an addiction!!

The adventure that has changed me and/or my attitude and thinking towards life is TRAVELING! I love it and have travelled quite a bit in the past 8 years, with family, with friends, and alone. I always go overseas at least once a year, and do numerous domestic travels throughout the year too, great life experience to gain I must say. So go for it, enjoy your time away and get recharged :-)- Posted from rhpmobile

Go camping in the Australian out back... a Frontier that not to many people have experienced.Pitch a tent ,look at the stars ,shower in a lake ,build an open fire ,fish and hunt for your food.Ride/drive around Australia and see our beautiful country.Adventure is not being 5 minutes from a shop and running water with a roof over your head. Its a GPS/compass and a map.My next trip i am going to Brazil again and doing the Amazon!

The only chances we regret are those we dont take.Plenty of good advice above. Travelling alone is not for everyone though, and if you are going to go overseas for the first time by yourself best to go with a tour or at least somewhere easy. You dont have to go overseas for adventure though, some of the best I've had have been simple road trips. I'm with Kizza on the camping - one of my favourite adventures was a camping trip on the tip of Cape York.Mr C

When I told my sister about my dream today she laughed at me as we are currently in qld for a family reunion, we also have a country property that is remote without power or running water and that is what she said what kind of adventure do you want?. I do think my adventure lies overseas though and recently have contemplated this......I thinkthis is where I will go. :-)

The Amazon is on my list. Haven't don't any of Sth America yet. God.... So many places to see, so little time and not enough money!!! Would love to spend 6 mths traveling around that part of the world. Best time of my life was the 12 mths I spent traveling around Europe and the Middle East. Good times! :)

Mind you after 12 mths I was completely jaded, sick of living out of a small back pack and not being in the same bed for more than three nights in a row. When I woke up in the mornings I couldn't remember what country I was in let alone want city or place. Get up early to watch the sunrise over the Sahara desert? Pffft nah been there done that, i would rather sleep in. Oh dear. Lol. I would do it all again in an minute! Best time of my life. Absolute freedom... No commitments, no Bookings, just some young girls and a guide book and a very vague plan. Woo Hoo! :)

Wherever you think your heart wants too.I'd almost say do it with reckless abandon but these days I would be a tad more careful. Think about your likes and where you can indulge in these.Go for it and have funBoots

This means you'll have to find other people to make conversation with. When you travel with a buddy, it's nice to be able to share the cool stuff and have a witness to your adventures though.. But when you're alone you'll have to find new people to fill that slot. That's fun. I often do stuff on my own and have met some lovely folk which I'm sure I'd have not met if I'd been out with friends..

To travel by oneself is you don't have to vie with what someone else wants to do if you don't feel like it. Also if you meet someone who takes your fancy, you can spend as much time as you want with them and not have to worry about getting back to your friend because they are waiting for you, and, may make you feel awkward nipping off for a naughty! Yes it's nice to travel with others, but its also nice to do your own thing.

I am going through my bucket list. I have travelled O/S on a number of occasions with my chosen sport of Paddling!! So if and when I felt the need to be on my own I would just say to the others. I'm off - I'll catch up with u later!! Sometimes half the fun is getting around on your own and making yourself understood where there are language barriers. Other adventures could include jumping out of a plane - white water rafting - yes volunteering in a country teaching English, even just opening your horizons to other cultures, religions, celebrations!! Have fun BeneathBlueEyes. Gypsy- Posted from rhpmobile

I have it down to a fine art now. I have had the bug all my life, airforce brat and we moved every two years   I have been to a lot of places and try to go to a new place every year. some places I always go back to like, Italy and NYC   I was always a solo person, most of the time but of late go with my husband, next trip is Russia on the trans siberian rail   though may do a short trip before then , not done much in asia but that does not really float my boat   bali is cheap and close and was suposed to go there this week but cant be stuffed. besides bali belly is not so sexy   but plan well, and pack light. And sometimes changey our plans on a whim, but make sure you let people know where you are. before the internet I think myfriends and family would get grey hair wondering where I was   I would say see ya, and grab passport and pack and take a flight. to a dot on the map of theworld and just wing it from there.     have fun, the world is full of adventure   I am less outthere now but then I am old and cant run as fast as I used to ....

I think he watched me for a while to perfect the efficiency.Qantas recently ruined part of my pre-boarding routine though when they started blocking RHP on the lounge wi-fi. Wowsers.Mr C

I was in Iran in 2007. Despite having a tourist visa I was there on work. It was a great place and the people were awesome.I'd love to go back and just travel there without any work responsibility. What place have you been to that you'd like to see again?

Too many places to see to go backwards!! But I would go back to Cambodia, Scotland, France, Spain. I have to go back to Italy & Czech Republic & Switzerland as I have family in those places. Also the Carribean - but I wouldn't go back to Jamaica. Maybe Egypt. In my definite list to go Canada + Alaska Cuba Peru, Bolivia, Galápagos Islands. Russia
